New Ghostbusters game revealed by Activision to coincide with movie's release

In case you haven't heard yet, there's a new Ghostbusters movie coming out this summer. It's a new story with new characters, and lots of fans of the franchise are excited about it. But out of nowhere today, mega-publisher Activision has announced a new Ghostbusters video game, which will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on July 15th, the same day that the movie hits theaters.

A brief 30-second teaser video was released, offering a quick look at some of the gameplay. It features a top-down perspective, with presumably four-player co-op play, and appears to be a more arcade-y style game than the 3D action-adventure Ghostbusters title that was released in 2009.

While the footage shows characters capturing ghosts in the typical Ghostbusters jumpsuit attire, Activision says players will take the role of new Ghostbuster recruits, with a story that takes place after the events of the new movie.

Only a few details about the actual gameplay were shared, including that the four characters will have different abilities, and players can level-up by defeating monsters and searching for hidden collectibles.

Oddly enough, there's no word on the actual developer of the game, nor what it will be priced at upon release. Mobile gamers will also have something Ghostbusters-related to look forward to, as Activision will be releasing a game called Slime City on iOS, Android, and Kindle devices in July as well.
