New Death Stranding Trailer Is Pure Post-Konami Hideo Kojima Madness
Aside from The Last of Us Part 2, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding is probably the most anticipated game on the way to the PlayStation 4. Death Stranding will certainly be out earlier than The Last of Us Part 2, in any case, and with release on the horizon, Sony is priming its marketing engine. Today, the company published a new promo for Death Stranding, so you may see the trailer embedded below on TV at some point between now and release.
Unfortunately, those of you looking for some gameplay footage aren't going to find it here. This new trailer – which is titled "The Drop" – is purely cinematic, but it does set up the story of Death Stranding well enough in the minute it's afforded. If nothing else, we get to see plenty of Norman Reedus (who is portraying protagonist Sam Bridges) running through an eerie world as he attempts to "reconnect a fractured society."
Any game coming out of Kojima Productions is going to be a big deal given Hideo Kojima's status in the gaming industry, but Death Stranding is particularly notable since this is the first game Kojima Productions is making as an independent studio. It's also a departure from the Metal Gear series, which Kojima and his studio have mostly focused on throughout the last 15 years.
We can probably expect to see more trailers and TV spots over the next few weeks. At the end of September, Kojima Productions announced that Death Stranding had gone gold, meaning that the game was finished and production on physical copies was about to begin. We're in the final weeks before launch, so we can likely count on Sony to ramp up its marketing push for this game.
With a release date of November 8th, Death Stranding is right around the corner. We'll see soon enough if Kojima and his team can deliver with Death Stranding, so stay tuned for more.
