Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition Brings The PC Classic Into Modern Era

If you liked Beamdog's re-releases of the Baldur's Gate franchise and Planescape: Torment, then you'll probably like the company's next project as well. Beamdog announced today that it will be bringing Neverwinter Nights into the modern era with Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition. Like the treatments it gave to Baldur's Gate and Planescape, this new game will be less of a remake and more of a reissue that makes a bunch of quality of life improvements.

Beamdog announced Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition through a post on Twitter, and though it's holding off on details for the moment, Game Informer has a little more information for us. Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition will offer support for more modern resolutions, including 1080p and 4K. Beamdog will also be beefing up graphics options, allowing you to apply things like post-processing effects and depth of field.

Perhaps the most exciting thing about all of this is that Beamdog has been working with the Neverwinter Nights community to implement fan-requested quality of life improvements. Those should help the game feel a little more modern, but at this point, we don't what those improvements are. Furthermore, your old saves, mods, and modules will also work with the new version of Neverwinter Nights, so you can pick off right where left off if it's been a few years since you've played.

There's still a lot to learn about Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, but hopefully many of the questions we have will be answered in a live stream Beamdog is hosting later today. At 12 PM Pacific, Beamdog will go live on Twitch to show off Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, giving us our first real look at the game with all of its improvements.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition doesn't have a release date yet, but as Game Informer points out, the game will go up for pre-order tomorrow. That, at least, suggests a release date that isn't too far off in the future, though the assumption is that Beamdog will announce one during its livestream today.
