Netgear Arlo customers warned to change account passwords

Netgear is asking its home security customers to change their passwords due to suspicious activity that may have left users exposed. The company posted its advisement on the Netgear forums, where it warns customers that the suspicious activity could have impacted its Arlo accounts. The extent of the security issue and who is behind it isn't clear.

In the statement on its forum, Netgear said, "We have recently observed suspicious activity potentially impacting Arlo accounts." The company goes on to explain that some unknown attacker(s) could be using credentials obtained from a third party to try and access Arlo accounts.

Netgear says it has "no reason" to think the systems have actually been impacted by the security issue, however customers should change their passwords as a precautionary measure. The warning has been issued to all Arlo customers who can change their account passwords using the desktop website, Android app, and/or iOS app.

In addition, the company is advising users to make sure they'll using a unique password that hasn't already been used on some other service. Netgear says it is investigating the issue and that it will provide any necessary future updates in its community forums.
