Netflix's first original movie now available for streaming

Netflix has done big things to the television industry, and it's poised to do even bigger things to the movie industry. We've known for many months that Netflix has feature film aspirations, some that involve launching movies on its service the same day they release in theaters. The movie industry has largely not been receptive to the company's plans, with some theaters going so far as to threaten boycotts, but that hasn't stopped Netflix from plodding on.

We learned this past summer that Netflix would release the first of many planned original feature films in October, and that time has come. You can now stream Beasts of No Nation on the service, and maybe brag to your future grandkids that you were among the first in this brave new world of entertainment.

The movie stars Idris Elba and is from Cary Fukunaga. Though it has been shown at the Venice Film Festival, this is the first time the public has had the opportunity to watch it. The movie tells the story of a young West African boy, says Netflix, who is forced into a collective of mercenary fighters during a civil war.

Based on some past trailers we've seen, the movie isn't a light one. So far it has four out of five starts on Netflix, which is fairly good — that number might shift though as more people begin watching it. For more Netflix news, check out the timeline below!
