Netflix's '6 Underground' trailer brings Ryan Reynolds and explosions

Netflix has released the trailer for 6 Underground, an original movie from Michael Bay that stars Ryan Reynolds of Deadpool fame. Anyone familiar with Michael Bay movies will recognize the filmmaker's style, including a mixture of dramatic music punctuating narrative that is interspersed between explosions and clips of action. We now know when the movie will be available to stream on the platform.

Earlier this summer, Netflix announced that Bay's 6 Underground — an original it refers to as a feature film — would star Ryan Reynolds alongside Aria Arjona, Corey Hawkins, Dave Franco, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. The movie has Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese as writers and executive producers, both of whom worked on Deadpool and Deadpool 2.

The movie started filming in late July and will be available to stream on Netflix starting on December 13, according to the company. Subscribers were given their first official look at the movie in its first trailer published by Netflix on Tuesday. The movie's show page is now live on the company's website, as well.

6 Underground is rumored to have cost Netflix $150 million, making it potentially the most expensive original movie ordered by the company to date. This isn't the first feature film to star a major celebrity on the platform, however — notably, Netflix offers Bright, an action film with somewhat poor reviews that stars Will Smith.

Consumers are generally used to first seeing this type of movie in theaters months before streaming becomes an option. Netflix has largely dismissed that traditional business strategy, instead bringing theatrical-tier movies directly to its platform for viewers to enjoy at home. There are some advantages to this for viewers, the most notable being the ability to enjoy these flicks without paying for pricey theater tickets.
