Netflix Orders Another Three 'Orange Is The New Black' Seasons

We won't get the next season of Orange is the New Black until this upcoming summer, but Netflix is already eyeing the future, and that future will include quite a bit more OITNB content. In a statement today, both Netflix and producer Lionsgate announced that the streaming service has ordered another three seasons. In addition, the show's creator Jenji Kohan will continue with the series, something that can't be said for House of Cards' upcoming season.

The fourth season of Orange is the New Black will be arriving on June 17, and as in the past it will include the full roster of episodes. Tacking the extra three seasons on to it, fans are assured we'll at least get to season 7...and, considering the show's vast popularity, the news isn't terribly surprising.

Kohan issued a statement about the news, saying:

Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things. In some cultures, 'May you lead an interesting life,' is a curse, but I don't live in those cultures. Here's to keeping it interesting. Thanks, Netflix! Both thanks and you're welcome, Lionsgate!

Orange is the New Black is one of many Netflix original TV shows, and it has been joined by some original movies the streaming service started rolling out late last year. Netflix has seen ample success with OITNB, however, including recently taking home a couple of SAG Awards for it.
