Netflix eyeing "The Crown" new original series

Netflix has seen ample success with its original series' House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, and if sources that have cropped up are any indication, it could be adding a third one to the list. Reportedly, the video streaming service is near closing a deal for a new original series The Crown.

The information comes from TechCrunch, which says their sources state a deal is "close" for the series, which is said to be produced by Sony Pictures Television. If Netflix goes through with the deal, it may sign on for a couple of seasons.

Furthermore, the sources say The Crown "will likely" be pricier than Netflix's current hit House of Cards. As the name suggests, the upcoming series will be a historical drama, and Peter Morgan will be penning the series.

The reason for the assumed higher price isn't entirely clear, but it is suggested Netflix's growth since its original House of Cards days could be part of the reason, particularly with a larger international market. Netflix hasn't commented on the rumor.
