Netflix And Michael Bay Are Making A Ryan Reynolds Action Movie
California-based production company Skydance Media is teaming up with Netflix to produce Six Underground, an original action movie directed by Michael Bay and starring Ryan Reynolds. Netflix and Skydance will co-produce the movie, which the streaming company calls an "event level feature film," as well as its first project with both Bay and Reynolds.
Though this is the first time Netflix has worked with the two, it has a history with Skydance Media in the realm of television. Skydance is the producer behind both newly released Altered Carbon, as well as hit comedy Grace and Frankie. Co-producing a feature length movie represents an expansion of the two companies' relationship, one set to benefit action movie fans.
According to Netflix, which hasn't yet detailed the movie's storyline, Six Underground is based on "an original idea" from the writers behind the two Deadpool movies. It's unclear whether this new original flick would fall under an "R" rating if it were released theatrically, but that seems to be the case.
This is Netflix's latest major original content deal. Yesterday, the streaming company announced that it has penned a multi-year deal with Barack and Michelle Obama, that arrangement promising to produce a variety of original programming, including documentaries and scripted shows. Netflix hasn't stated when Six Underground will premier on the service.
