NASA Looking For Normal Folk To Be Astronauts

NASA may be embarrassing Neil Armstrong, but this is the first chance that the masses have ever had to be an astronaut. NASA has announced that it will start taking applications to be an astronaut from anyone that wants to be an astronaut. There are a few caveats though. It seems if you don't hold a degree in a specific subject, you need not apply.

NASA is specifically looking for potentials with degrees in math, science, or engineering and at least three years of work experience. NASA has stated that it will be naming the people chosen for the mission sometime in 2013 and training for the chosen will start in August of that year.

The candidates will "support long-duration missions to the International Space Station (ISS) and future deep space exploration activities." I think the chances of a normal person making the cut to get on a rocket are slim. I would wager that military aviation experience will be something highly desired by NASA.
