Motorola teases something new arriving next week

Though Jony Ive may disagree, Motorola has a lot going for them. After a brief stint at Google to recalibrate themselves, they're now under the auspices of Lenovo. They're doing really good work, too, with the new Moto X winning much praise while the Moto 360 makes a home on wrists. That tandem might not be enough, though, and the company has begun hinting that more is on the way. In an email to some press, Moto says they're ready to seed something new.

What that is remains a mystery, but it apparently fits inside a box. There will be no announcement for whatever is coming, so don't expect a streaming YouTube event or liveblog.

Adding to the mystery is Motorola's urgency. They want to seed the box to press on Wednesday, Feb 25. That's days ahead of MWC, where Motorola is not expected to announce anything major.

There are plenty of ways to unwrap this puzzle. It could be something beta the company is working on, and wants to get non-working models in our hands as a secondary teaser.

It could be a new-look device that has slipped under everyone's radar, too. We're not due for a Moto X refresh, but it's just about time we'd likely get a refresh of the Moto 360.

Whatever is coming fits inside a box, so its tangible. That suggests hardware. Or Motorola has decided they hate the press (and trees) and are sending a box of paperwork.

If you're looking for a guess, we're going to say a new device (think HTC Re), or a Moto 360 v2.0. We'll know next Wednesday, whatever it is.
