There is no escaping the notch. Not unless you're Samsung (at least for now) or a Chinese manufacturer with a crazy slider or elevating motor. Even Google succumbed to it, at least with the Pixel 3 XL. So when the Motorola One and Motorola One Power debuted with one, it wasn't exactly surprising. Still, some actually do love the notch or at least the all-screen look that the notch brings, which is probably why Motorola has decided to spread at least the Motorola One even further with an availability in the US next week.

The Motorola One isn't exactly all that. It does, however, practically replace the Moto X series, the company's former premium flagship line, both in tier and in spirit. Most notably, it is also the first phone in years to bear the full "Motorola" name rather than short Moto it has been using for some time now.

Now for the nitty-gritty. The Motorola One runs on a somewhat dated Qualcomm 625 processor with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable memory. It will, however, probably be noticed most for its 5.9-inch 19:9 HD+ screen and dual 13 megapixel main cameras, both of which are a dead knocker for the iPhone X. Don't be surprised if you see it referred to as Android's iPhone X in that regard.

Its main pull will be its Android One software, much like its spiritual predecessor, the Moto X4. This version of Android is guaranteed two years of software updates and three years of security updates. Sadly, it launches with Android 8.0 Oreo, which probably means the last version it will get will be Android "Q".

The Motorola One will be competing with quite a number of Android One phones already available in the US but its $399 price tag could seal the deal. The smartphone will be a Best Buy exclusive starting November 9 online and November 11 in retail stores. Unfortunately for Verizon, Sprint, and other CDMA network subscribers, this won't be the Android One for them.

UPDATED: Pre-orders at Best Buy are available now, though shipping will most likely still start on the 9th. The Motorola One is available in both Black and White color options.
