Motorola boss: more wearables coming, maybe even a new phone

With Motorola, you pretty much know what you're getting. There are a few really good smartphones that make a mark at their respective price points, and a wearable. There are even a few neat accessories. At Mobile World Congress this week, Motorola President Rick Osterloh said nothing was going to change, either. Motorola will continue to iterate on their stuff, but will stay their course. Interestingly, Osterloh also suggests Motorola is probably done with tablets, a sector best left to Lenovo, in his view.

Speaking to Re/Code, Osterloh says tablets and 'other devices' are best left to Lenovo. In the US, Lenovo is still trying to find their footing as a mobile device OEM. Motorola might have a better shot at producing interest, but Lenovo's offerings probably can't be outshined in a significant way.

The Moto 360 also isn't all Moto has up their sleeve. "We'll be launching more products in the later part of the year" said Osterloh, saying what's coming will not be a Moto 360. There will be other models, though he didn't say if Motorola was working on a fitness band, new smartwatch or something else entirely.

As for going the LG route and creating their own wearable OS in addition to an Android Wear offering, Osterloh said "We just think that's a terrible idea. We're pretty happy with Android Wear, and that is what we are going to stay with."

Similarly, Motorola's boss says there's room for more smartphones in their lineup. Specifically, Osterloh thinks there may be a gap between the Moto G and Moto X that can be filled. He didn't suggest anything was in the pipeline, but a fourth phone to round out their lineup would be interesting, especially seated between the Moto X and Moto G.
