Moto X wood backing option won't arrive for Thanksgiving, is slated for holiday season

The Moto X has long been touted as a highly customizable smartphone, allowing buyers to choose from a plethora of colors and, in some cases, different backings and personal engravings. Not all of the customization options were available upon launch, however, and many have found themselves waiting a long time for the wood backing option in particular. If you were hoping for Thanksgiving availability, you're going to have to keep waiting.

News of the wood backing for the Moto X surfaced a short while after the handset saw its official launch — some of the smartphones were spotted with the unique backings. This prompted some Internet sleuthing, where Motorola's website revealed that buyers would — eventually — be able to choose a rosewood, ebony, teak, or bamboo back cover via the Moto Maker.

Despite evidence of its existence, it has proved a long wait for those who have held off on getting the Moto X in anticipation of this particular customization option. When the engraving feature for the back panel finally surfaced — after much waiting and a delay, followed by some hopeful teasing and more waiting — faithfuls anticipated the wood backings launching any time now.

Hope that we'll see the option by Thanksgiving is unfounded, according to a tweet that surfaced today from a Reuters reporter. Instead, the Moto X's wood backing option will reportedly be made available in time for the holiday shopping season, which is nearly upon us, and as such we should be seeing the feature in the next week or two. If you've been waiting this long, it might be worth your while to be patient just a bit longer and maybe score yourself a satisfying gift for the year's end.
