MOS Kick revisited; version 2.0 improved in time-lapse

The last time we talked about the MOS Kick, it was in the late stages of a crowdfunding campaign. Though it fell just short of its goal, the team behind MOS Kick weren't going to give up. The tiny stand also made its Kickstarter debut at an odd time, when the iPhone 6 was all but confirmed and most were suspending any purchases until they got their hands on a new phone. Refined, we're taking a second look at an old favorite.

The original MOS Kick was nice — really nice. The ability to lock your phone (any phone) in place and have it set up to take pics is great. Having the ability to ratchet the MOS Kick to a tripod or other mount is even better. Its low profile rounds out a very nice package.

So what's different? MOS Kick's action has been refined. The portion of the device that holds your phone in place slides much smoother and resists twisting, a small niggle that some complained about with version one.

Overall, it's the same size, but ditches the triangular metal clasp up top, adding a new cutout around "back". The metal is a touch thicker as well, adding a sense of durability. For those concerned with visuals, the new model is painted and polished, and has smart branding on the front.

In a world of ever-growing phones and tablets, MOS widened Kick's rest. that makes it especially handy when a case is on your phone, and should open MOS Kick up for tablet photography buffs.

As refined products go, the new-look MOS Kick is a solid one. I enjoy the new, more solid Kick, and their quick update to the first working model is impressive. It doesn't take up much space, either, so MOS Kick is easily portable. If you're interested in picking one up, check their online store out. The Kick ships in mid-April.
