More Moto E4, E4 Plus details get leaked

Once upon a time, Motorola's smartphone story was simple. The Moto X was its high-end champion, the Moto E its entry-level offer and the Moto G for those that wanted something in between. Now we have a Moto Z line with three models, a Moto G5 with two models, a still to be confirmed Moto X 2017, and a still to be announced fourth gen Moto E and Moto E Plus. The latter two are the subjects of this most recent leak that paints the Moto E4 Plus in a rather positive light, save for one understandable flaw.

The Moto E class has always been about wallet-friendly value so expecting these two to be even mildly decent will be sorely disappointed. Both are powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M, not exactly the sharpest knife in the mobile AP drawer. Both will have 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, though there are rumors that certain Moto E4 Plus models might get 3 GB of RAM.

The Moto E4 is the smaller of the two, according to the leak. It will have a 5.0-inch screen with a 720p resolution. Despite being larger, the 5.5-inch screen of the Moto E4 Plus will also have a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, resulting in a lower pixel density. The Moto E4 will have a measly 8 megapixel rear camera while the Moto E4 Plus gets 13 megapixels. Both have 5 megapixel front cameras. Interestingly, both will also supposedly have fingerprint scanners behind the front home button, a feature not usually found in entry-level smartphones.

Of the two, the larger Moto E4 Plus might be of more interest to consumers. That's because it is believed to have a 5,000 mAh battery, nearly double the Moto E4's 2,800 mAh. That said, the side effect of that large battery is a large and heavy phone. The Moto E4 Plus is said to be 10 mm thick and 198 g heavy.

There is no information yet on when Motorola does plan on announcing the Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus. When it does, it is expected to offer pretty mouth-watering prices for them. The Moto E4, for example, will go for 150 EUR, roughly $165. The Moto E4 Plus and its hulking 5,000 mAh battery will not be far behind at 190 EUR, almost $210.
