MINI Clubman Concept hints at brand's future

The MINI Clubman Concept was debuted at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and with it comes hints at what the brand's design future could hold. As can be seen in the gallery after the jump, the design is distinctly MINI, but with it comes some subtle changes, including a slight increase in both width and length compared to the current Clubman model.

The larger size gives the Clubman concept more space than the current model, but doesn't make it so large as to obscure its distinct nature. The body is colored "Berry Red", though the roof has the distinct "Blade" color — metallic grey, which BMW says makes for an "elegant contrast". Classic design elements like the hexagonal grille and side scuttles remain, however.

This concept shows the first MINI with AirBreather, making for solid aerodynamics. The interior, says the maker, is "more sophisticated" than previous offerings, but as with the outside, it retains the distinct elements that makes its a MINI Clubman. There's no word on whether this concept model could end up entering production, but it does show where MINI might be heading in the future.

Said BMW's Head of Design, Adrian van Dooydonk, "The MINI Clubman Concept shows how the MINI Clubman could be taken a step further: more interior space, a greater sense of high-end quality and yet still clever, bold and distinctive. In short: more car, more MINI."
