Microsoft reveals plan to acquire Secure Islands

Microsoft has announced a plan to acquire Secure Islands, confirming recent rumors that have cropped up. Secure Islands is an Israeli security company offering "advanced information protection solutions," says Microsoft, and through the acquisition it will help Microsoft business customers secure their sensitive data. Secure Islands is already used by some big name companies for data protection, including Vodafone.

Both Microsoft and Secure Islands have announced the acquisition. Says Microsoft, it will integrate Secure Islands' own technology into its Azure Rights Management Service once the acquisition is complete. On its end, Secure Islands hasn't revealed any information about the terms of the acquisition, saying only that it is excited to join Microsoft's team.

The announcement isn't all that surprising — a little before Halloween, word began surfacing from anonymous sources that Microsoft was eyeing the security company, and that an acquisition announcement would be coming soon. This certainly isn't the first Israeli company that Microsoft has acquired — this past September, for example, the company nabbed Adallom, another security company.

The acquisition is still pending regulatory approval; it isn't clear when the deal is expected to be finalized, nor how much Microsoft paid for the Israeli company. For more recent Microsoft news, be sure to hit up our related tag portal, and check out the timeline below!
