Microsoft, Nintendo Promote Cross-Play As Sony Remains Stubborn
Microsoft and Nintendo are throwing a jab at Sony with a newly launched video that promotes cross-play between the Xbox One and Switch consoles. The issue of cross-play made its way back into public discourse with the launch of a Fortnite on Switch port, specifically the fact that PS4 players can't use their Fortnite accounts on other platforms.READ: Fortnite PS4, Switch issue: Sony seems unfazed
Fortnite wasn't the first time Sony failed to enable cross-play for PS4 owners with Xbox One and other platforms; the same issues arose with Rocket League, for example.
Despite demands from gamers, Sony has consistently failed to provide a satisfactory reason for its customers, leaving them to — in the case of Fortnite — have two different accounts with progression that exists independent of each other.
Amid all of this, Nintendo has released a video alongside Microsoft featuring Minecraft on both the Xbox One and Switch consoles. The video is very blunt in its support of cross-play, reading, "Create together, explore together, survive together. Better together." This was a trailer, as well, for the new Minecraft version available for Nintendo Switch.
Sony isn't mentioned anywhere in the video, but it's clear the trailer takes a passive-aggressive jab at the company's stubbornness around cross-play. Nintendo drives the point home with the tweet below:
Hey @Xbox, since we can play together in @Minecraft now, did you want to build something? pic.twitter.com/LIylWy3yXZ
