Marvel's 'A-Force' Comic To Feature All-Female Avengers Team

This spring will see Marvel Comics launch a new storyline event called Secret Wars, which sees all superhero groups broken up, and new crossovers across the entire Marvel Universe. Part of this new event will be a run of A-Force, a team entirely made up of Marvel's female heroes, put in place of the original Avengers. The A-Force comics will include She-Hulk, Medusa, Dazzler, and Nico Minoru. One of the writers for the series mentions that it serves as proof of Marvel's commitment to gender diversity.

A-Force will be drawn by X-Men artist Jorge Molina, with writing from Marguerite Bennett and G. Willow Wilson, who've worked on Angela: Asgard's Assassin and X-Men, respectively. News of the series' debut comes from USA Today, who got to interview Wilson. The writer reveals that they were given permission to choose any of Marvel's superheroes for their new team, but the requirement that everyone be female came directly from Marvel. Wilson added that over the last few years, Marvel has focused on gender diversity, telling new stories, and including more voices.

Along with established female heroes in the mix, Marvel also required the creation of a new character, Wilson reveals. Readers will be introduced to Singularity, who isn't really a human, but a sub-universe that became self-conscious as part of the disruption in Secret Wars. The writer adds that Singularity was designed to be a part of the new Avengers team, but also, in a way, act as Avengers Mansion, as she is "a whole world within herself and she can also move between different worlds and dimensions like taking a walk."

As for the selection process for the existing heroes, Wilson said they based their choices on wanting a wide range of super powers, as well as who would be interesting to see on the same pages. "This is an opportunity to put people who would normally have no reason to interact with each other on one team."
