Marvel Confirms Spider-Man Reboot Will Star Peter Parker
Shortly after the news that Sony was allowing Spider-Man to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), fans began discussing their hopes that the next movie would tell the story of someone other than Peter Parker, like successor Miles Morales for example, becoming the web-slinger. Also, that we not get yet another origin story, following one each with previous lead actors Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Well, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed in a recent interview that we will once again be seeing Peter Parker in the (yet again) rebooted Spider-Man film, along with other details.
Speaking to Collider, Feige says we'll be seeing a focus on Parker's high school years, which, unfortunately, means it's probably going to be another Spider-Man origin story. In the original comic book story, Parker gains his superpowers as a high school student, something we saw portrayed in both the Maguire and Garfield movies.
However, Feige says that what will be different this time is that they want to keep the focus of the movie on Parker in high school, and make him around 15 or 16 years old. "There are so many things from the comics that haven't been done yet," Feige told Collider, adding that keeping the superhero in a high school setting for a longer period is a great way to introduce those new stories.
"Some of my favorite Spider-Man arcs and Spider-Man stories, he's in high school for a lot of it. We want to explore that. That also makes him very, very different from any of our other characters in the MCU, which is something else we want to explore: how unique he is when now put against all these other characters."
While the Marvel executive said the character of Parker will be aged 15 or 16, he had no idea about the age range of the eventual actor, as no decisions had been made yet. Marvel has already decided on a release date for its new Spider-Man film, July 28th, 2017, and that the new superhero will be first introduced in Captain America: Civil War, set to hit theaters on May 6th, 2016.
