It's that time of year again. After greeting the changing of the calendar, it's time to set the pace for what will be the technology trends and products for 2018. CES is just a few days away but, as per tradition, the flood of announcements are starting to pour in. Kicking off the year is Lenovo's deluge of new ThinkPad laptops for every purpose and in every form, from traditional, no nonsense laptops to flexible convertible Yoga tablets.

Right at the very top, at least in terms of price, is the ThinkPad X series, made to balance performance and portability with a compact design that packs in a ton of features. Particular to the new ThinkPad X380 Yoga, as its name implies, is its ability to fold backwards into a flat tablet. This goes hand in hand with Lenovo's Active Pen, turning the device into a productivity and creativity combo.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad T members include the T480s, T480, and T580. Boasting of the latest 8th gen Intel Core processors, the new ThinkPad laptops are designed to be workhorses rather than fashion pieces. In addition to offering power, the laptops are equipped with privacy-enhancing features, including an IR camera for face recognition, a fingerprint scanner, and, something rather amusing, a ThinkShutter physical cover for the webcam.

And then there's thenew ThinkPad L series and the new ThinkPad L380 Yoga. This particular model combines the 360-degree bendability of the Yoga brand with a lighter and more portable 13.3-inch form-factor. Although not as flexible, the ThinkPad L580 offers an option to include a discrete AMD graphics card inside.

For those willing to sacrifice performance for portability, the Lenovo Tablet 10 offers an acceptable compromise. The detachable 2-in-1 machine is powered by a fanless Intel Celeron N and supports an Active Pen to embrace all sorts of use cases, any time, anywhere.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad will be on show at CES next week, but for those waiting for their retail launch, here are the months and figures to remember:
