Lenovo ThinkPad T490s: The thinner, lighter, and silver T490 sibling

Joining Lenovo's newly launched T490 business notebook is its sibling model, the T490s. The T490s is similar to the T490 in many ways, the most notable difference being its thinner, lighter design. This laptop is offered in both black and silver colors with display options that target users in need of high-quality graphics or long battery life.

The T490s has the same ThinkPad aesthetic found on the new T490, T590, and other newly unveiled Lenovo business laptops. Unlike the dark color associated with those models, however, the T490s can also be purchased in silver rather in addition to black. The silver version features a new aluminum top.

Overall, the T490s is 13-percent thinner than the previous version, offering a few notable changes including the inclusion of Intel Wi-Fi 6 Gig+, a PrivacyGuard panel with PrivacyAlert option, and dual far-field microphones. As well, buyers can choose to get the T490s with either a new WQHD Dolby Vision HDR display option or a low-power Full HD 400 nit option, the latter offering longer overall battery life.

Under the hood resides up to an 8th-generation Intel Core vPro i7 processor alongside Intel HD Graphics 620, up to 32GB of RAM, and up to a 1TB SSD. Users get Dolby Audio Premium, up to 20 hours of battery life, and a variety of security features.

Users can take advantage of Windows Hello and the laptop's fingerprint sensor, as well as a Kensington Lock Slot and dTPM 2.0. The T490s model features Thunderbolt 3, a USB-C port, two USB-A 3.1 ports, HDMI 1.4, a microSD card slot, and a combo audio jack. The laptop also has a side mechanical docking port.

The ThinkPad T490s will be available in June starting at $1,279 USD.
