Jambe is a new drum-like electric instrument for iOS

A new instrument has been created, bringing with it the best drums have to offer with an atypical design and support for iOS devices. It can be played like drums using drumsticks or your hands, but it is far more portable than traditional drums and it has a step up on them via the use of smart technology. The drums can be configured using the related iOS app, which includes different instruments to which the Jambe can be set, giving it different sounds for different musical needs.

Jambe is portable in part due to the use of small angular sections, each of which can be set to a different sound — meaning you can play drums all on a single Jambe or two. The device is round, small enough to carry around and hold in one's lap, and can be connected to audio equipment. The makers promise it offers more than electric drums, as well.

Jambe fits on standard drum stands, making it compatible with existing equipment, and it is said to be durable. It isn't clear at this point whether an Android app will eventually be made available, as well.

Sensorpoint, the company behind the Jambe, is looking to raise $100,000 USD on Kickstarter in funding, and so far it has raised a little over $16,000 USD with 24 days remaining. In order to get your own Jambe, assuming the campaign goes well, you'll need to pledge at least $499 USD, which is $300 off the eventual retail price. Shipping to those backers is estimated to start in August.
