iRig Micro Amp portable guitar amplifier supports iPhone and iPad

IK Multimedia has introduced its iRig Micro Amp, a small battery-powered amplifier designed for guitars. The device features a built-in USB interface and compatibility with iOS, enabling musicians to connect the system with their laptop, iPhone, or iPad. Despite its features, the iRig Micro Amp is highly compact and optionally powered by batteries.

The new iRig Micro Amp targets casual musicians and people with limited storage or high portability needs. The device weighs only 2.6lbs, but packs a 4-inch full-range driver and is capable of 24-bit 96kHz audio quality. Users can optionally power the device using a 9v power supply or AA batteries.

This 15 watt amplifier features physical control knobs, a 1/8-inch TRS jack, TS 1/4-inch jack, and a USB interface with a micro USB port and 44.1/48/88.2/96kHz sampling rates. Instrument input has a 20Hz to 20kHz frequency response. IK Multimedia includes 60cm USB-A to micro USB and Lightning to micro USB cables with the device, plus a 3/8-16 male to 5/8-27 female microphone stand thread adapter.

In addition to the company's own AmpliTube app and software, iRig Micro Amp device owners can use their preferred third-party software for recording content, practicing, and more. There's both the AmpliTube 4 desktop software and Amplitube CS app options.

The big benefit over competing models, of course, is the model's small size — it measures only 8.2 x 4.9 x 6.1-inches. With such a small size and weight, users could put the amp into a backpack or large purse and easily transport it outdoors or to remote gigs without the hassle and restrictions of larger items. The iRig Micro Amp is available to preorder now for $149.99 USD, and will start shipping in March.
