iPhone 8 Featured In McDonald's App Advertisement
The iPhone 8's official launch is almost upon us, and it's an exciting time to speculate. The leaks have spanned all categories, ranging from design to hardware to rumored new features and back again. All signs point to the phone featuring an edge-to-edge OLED display, and that raises questions about what kind of iOS design tweaks will be made to accommodate that. One possible design just appeared in a McDonald's advertisement.
One of the big questions surrounding the iPhone 8 is what kind of design Apple will use to accommodate the edge-to-edge display. One possible design is that the iPhone 8 will have solid back bars at the top and bottom; another popular idea is that the top of the phone will feature a 'notch' where the cameras and ear piece are located, with a pair of 'ears' on either side.
A McDonald's advertisement in Australia features that latter design on an iPhone 8, which is no doubt a render of some sort. According to designer Benjamin Geskin, whomever designed the McDonald's advertisement swiped his design, though there are many basically identical designs floating around, making hard to determine where exactly McDonald's got this and why it went with this particular style.

This is only one of multiple renders we've seen that present different iOS design options. Max Rudberg recently published a trio of iPhone 8 mockups that explore the possibilities, one of which includes a notch with small bits of screen real estate on either side. Whether Apple will go with this style is yet to be seen.
The iPhone 8 is expected to be unveiled next month with a number of new features, including wireless charging, features that make it suitable for augmented reality applications, and a repositioned Touch ID sensor.
