Intel Core i9 CPU lands on eBay ahead of official launch

You can find just about anything on eBay and if you have some junk you can sell just about anything on eBay as well. We mentioned back in August that the 6-core Gulftown CPU from Intel had been spied in the wild. The Core i9 CPU has now landed on eBay at auction well ahead of the expected launch.

A look at the picture tells us that the part is an engineering sample CPU. There are lots of these floating around eBay of different processor types. These parts are what Intel uses in house for testing and they are typically given to journalists for benchmarking. Many of these parts end up at hardware makers too so they can test mainboards and other hardware ahead of the new processor launch.

If you just can't wait to get your hands on the Gulftown Core i9 part you can bid on eBay starting at $1,200. It looks like someone is trying to make some Christmas loot. Some are wondering if the unblurred pics will give Intel an idea who had the part originally, who knows but they can't be happy the CPU is on eBay. If the chipmaker can root out the leak at best it will mean no more CPUs ahead of launch for them.
