Inateck BTSP-10 Plus bluetooth speaker review

You have choices when it comes to Bluetooth speakers. Lots of choices. Be it bombastic offerings from big-name manufacturers or impressive boxes from smaller companies, the market is saturated. With that, we got our hands on Inateck's latest, a Bluetooth speaker with a small footprint that wants to do big things. Dual 1.5-inch speakers promise big sound, with Inateck boasting a virtual 3D output. Portable, lightweight, attractive, and seemingly worth a look, we decided to put the Inateck speaker to the test.

Build

The BTSP-10 Plus measures 6.5 x 2.4 x 2 inches, so portability is easy with this one. It's heavy for its size, but not obtrusively so. A rubbery finish coats the sides that aren't the speaker grille, which is also laced with the same grippy finish. A front-facing light indicates when the device is powered on or low on battery, and gives feedback on pairing.

Buttons up top pair the speaker or control volume. Around the side, the microUSB power input (cable included), on/off toggle, and auxiliary port (cable also included) reside. A 2100mAh battery is packed in, along with sound hardware Inateck likens to Bose speakers.

Inateck says the BTSP-10 Plus has "double 3-watt precision-tuned drivers, multi-band compressors and built with high performance composite diaphragm 40 mm Rotunded 16-core NdFeB 3W magnetic driver." According to Inateck, it's as good as Bose's SoundLink Mini.

Use

Pairing via Bluetooth is easy, and the BTSP-10 Plus uses Bluetooth 4.0, or BLE, so it's not going to drag your device (or itself) down the battery drain hole. Inateck says the BTSP-10 Plus gets up to 15 hours playback, which we found to be pretty accurate. Mixing movie and music brought us around 10 hours, so 15 hours music playback at 'normal' volumes is likely possible.

Highs were appropriately tingly and bass was acceptably heavy. The sound was also crisp, but the BTSP-10 Plus doesn't get quite as loud as I would have liked. The speaker is still great for use in an office, but will struggle to overcome any conversation.

Verdict

Keep in mind the size, here. You won't get the theater-pumping sound we found with the iLoud (which doubles as a guitar amp, by the way), but the diminutive BTSP-10Plus definitely packs a punch.

At $54.99, there's no reason to not consider it. The sound coming from the BTSP-10 Plus is more than adequate, and the black-on-red grille is sharp. The finish also makes it a bit more rough-and-tumble than some other speakers, so handling it delicately isn't a concern.

The BTSP-10 Plus is available via the Inateck website, and is sold through Amazon.
