Hyundai Genesis Cars Recalled Over Potential Water Leak
Hyundai is back with another auto recall, this one due to a possible water leak and the electrical problems it could cause. This follows the auto maker's Hyundai Elantra recall from earlier this week, which was made due to problems with the electric power steering (it might stop working). This new problem, which affects some of its newest Genesis vehicles, is arguably less serious than the sudden loss of power steering, but it could cause problems with shifting.
In excess of 26,000 2015 Hyundai Genesis vehicles are being recalled in North America, the reason being due to a potential water leak in the rear lamp. This leak could result in a somewhat unexpected issue: troubles with shifting, such as delayed switching from one gear to another, or the wrong gear showing up on the instrument panel's display when the car is being used.
The solution is to prevent water from getting into the lamp, which will be done by dealers who will install some sort of pad that keeps water out. It isn't specified whether further repairs will be done in vehicles that are suffering from water-sourced problems (though the answer is likely yes). Owners will be notified if their vehicle is affected.
The first report related to this issue surfaced in September, and since then another report was received in November — fortunately, however, there are no known injuries or wrecks that have happened as a result of this. Hyundai estimates it'll start notifying owners after April 1 — most of them are in the US (24,400), and the rest are in Canada.
