Hulu will increase the price of its Live TV plan in December

Hulu has offered a live television service in addition to its on-demand streaming service for a couple of years now, enabling its users to watch shows as they air in addition to streaming content that has already aired, as well as originals. In an announcement today, the company revealed that it is increasing the price of its Hulu + Live TV plan starting next month.

Hulu Live TV is exactly what it sounds like: an over-the-top live television service that can be added to an on-demand Hulu subscription, providing subscribers with access to live TV channels in addition to the on-demand video library. Live TV is an optional add-on that is considerably pricier than the on-demand plans at $44.99/month.

Starting on December 18, Hulu will increase the cost of its Live TV plan to $54.99/month, a full ten-dollar increase that puts it over the $49.99/month rate charged by competitor YouTube TV. Hulu says the rate 'better reflects the substantial value of Hulu + Live TV.'

As is currently the case, the new Live TV price will include full access to Hulu's on-demand content, meaning users don't need to separately pay for an on-demand plan. Without Live TV, Hulu offers a with-ads plan that costs $5.99/month and a no-ads plan that costs $11.99/month.

This is the second price hike Hulu has announced for its Live TV plan — the first was a $5 increase to its current rate back in February. Overall, the service has steadily risen from the original $39.99 USD rate it launched at back in 2017.
