Halo Infinite Battle Royale: Don't get your hopes up

Battle royale is a genre that's quickly taking the world by storm. On the heels of successful titles like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite, many developers have started implementing battle royale modes in their own games. This is starting to extend to long-running, triple-A game franchises as well, with Call of Duty and Battlefield both slated to get battle royale modes in this year's releases.

With all of this hype surrounding battle royale, it goes without saying that Microsoft will implement a similar mode in the upcoming Halo Infinite, right? Not so fast. Though Halo Infinite is likely still early on in development, it seems that 343 Industries has already made up its mind about whether or not the game will include battle royale.

Last night, 343 Industries hosted a social stream on Mixer in which it answered questions from viewers. When one Mixer user asked if we'd see battle royale in Halo Infinite, 343's Jeff Easterling essentially said no (fast forward to 55:55 in the video linked above). "I'll tell you right now, the only BR we're really interested in is 'battle rifle,'" Easterling the said, referencing one of Halo's oft-ued weapons. "The original BR, so calm yourself."

Easterling's answer suggests that battle royale isn't really on the radar for the Halo Infinite team. Of course, the game doesn't even have a release date yet, so that could very well change by the time Halo Infinite actually arrives.

Easterling may not even be a position to confirm whether or not Halo Infinite will have battle royale, and simply made the joke as a way of avoiding the topic. While his reply isn't exactly the hard confirmation that Mixer user was looking for, Halo Infinite's various multiplayer modes probably haven't been finalized yet. We'll see what 343 has to say about Halo Infinite as we move closer to its release, but for now, don't hold out hope for a battle royale mode.
