Sonos Roam Gallery

Sonos may have a reputation for high-end speakers and multi-room systems, but the company is looking to open up a new gateway into ownership with the Sonos Roam. Simultaneously both a part of the Sonos WiFi network and a portable Bluetooth speaker, Roam may not be the company's first battery-powered model, but it's definitely the most attainable. Indeed, not only is it cheaper than Sonos Move, at $169 it's the cheapest new speaker in the range.

Your money gets you automatic switching between WiFi and Bluetooth, as well as a new Sound Swap feature. Hold the play/pause button down and Move will flip its currently-playing music to the nearest other Sonos speaker, or vice-versa. Move out of WiFi range, and Roam will reconnect to its Bluetooth paired device.

Battery life is up to 10 hours of playback, and Roam recharges either via USB-C connection or an optional Qi wireless pad. As for music, you get all the same support for streaming services as any other Sonos speaker, along with Apple AirPlay 2 and the ability to use Roam as a Bluetooth line-in. It's available in April 2021.
