On the road in the 2017 McLaren GT

Take the McLaren 570S, soften the suspension just a little, and add a useful extra chunk of storage above the mid-mounted engine, and you get this, the 2017 McLaren 570GT. The British automaker's "most practical" car definitely deserves those quotation marks; after all, it's hardly a family vehicle. Still, it's enough of a tempering to make the 570GT eminently usable as your everyday commuter car.

That's assuming you have around $200k and somewhere safe to park it, mind. If you don't hit traffic – or traffic cops – you can still do 204 mph and 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. It comes courtesy of the 570GT's 3.80-liter twin-turbo V8, which has a pleasingly raucous scream when pushed anywhere near its sky-high redline.

Inside, McLaren's craftsmen have produced a beautiful cabin with bespoke switchgear. It's lighter in there, too, thanks to the standard-fit panoramic glass roof. The Android-based IRIS infotainment system is annoying in numerous ways, but get your music piped through the optional Bowers & Wilkins audio system and you won't care.
