Nissan Xmotion Concept Gallery

Nissan has taken whispers of arguably dull design to heart, and come up with this, the Xmotion concept SUV at the Detroit Auto Show 2018. Previewing a new design language set to impact the company's production line-up from 2020, the Xmotion takes what we've seen from Nissan's SUVs and crossovers to-date and amps it up considerably. From the more aggressive grille, to the beefy U-shaped sizes, and the huge door opening, it's certainly not going to blend in.

Inside, there's seating for six, and a cabin that picks out elements of traditional Japanese craftsmanship for the design and finish. Inset wood shares dash space with a total of seven separate displays, controlled by voice, gesture, and eye-tracking. There's even an intelligent virtual koi, that acts as an assistant.

Exactly how much of this will reach production models is unclear, of course. Nissan says its bolder design language – with a greater emphasis on the Japanese tradition that could help set it apart from its US rivals – will indeed transfer over to SUVs and crossovers you can eventually buy. Meanwhile, driver-assistance technologies like ProPILOT are already available on the market today.
