Jaguar E-Type Zero EV Gallery

Take a classic 60's Jaguar E-type Series 1.5, entrust it to the expert engineers at Jaguar Land Rover Classic, and ask them to bring it purring and whirring into the 21st century, and if you're lucky you'll end up with something like this. The Jaguar E-Type Zero Concept reimagines the classic Roadster as a fully-electric car. Gone is the six-cylinder gasoline engine – carefully packed away, with the potential to be fitted back in place later if required – and in its place there's an EV drivetrain.

Not just any drivetrain, mind. Jaguar had one built to get as close to the dimensions of the original ICE system as possible. The batteries, motor, and step-up gear occupy the same space as the old gas engine took up, but with around 100 pounds less heft overall.

The result is that – with the exception of some low-power LED headlamps and a high-tech dashboard upgrade – the whole thing keeps its original suspension, brakes, and driving feel. 0-62 mph gets cut by a second to 5.5 seconds, and range is expected to be around 170 miles of real-world driving. Jaguar says it'll evaluate feedback before deciding if it'll make any more.
