BMW promised something big for its first all-electric SUV coming to the US, and the BMW iX is it delivering on that. Based on the iNEXT concept, the new BEV SUV is expected to arrive at US dealers in 2022. By then, BMW says, it should have around 500 horsepower and 300 miles of EPA estimated range.

It'll use two electric motors, with DC fast charging that supports up to 200 kW. Outside, it's a mixture of the familiar and the new, with elements of the BMW i3 as well as other recent BMW cars. The outsized grille is no longer required for engine cooling, so BMW makes it a sensor hub complete with a self-healing fascia.

Inside there's room for five in an all-new cabin. Lots of interesting styling details co-exist with a curved, two-screen infotainment panel and options like ambient heating surfaces and a beefy audio system with over 1,600 watts to play with. Full details will be confirmed sometime in 2021.
