The Hummer name may be associated with peak gas consumption, but GMC is looking to reboot and redeem it with a family of potent EV “Supertrucks.” Though they’ll launch first as the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup, in the pipeline is the 2024 Hummer EV SUV, an enclosed-body version. Shorter – though no less wide – than the pickup version, it has seating for five and no shortage of cargo space.
Outside, the familiar chunky styling still promises to turn heads. 22-inch wheels look positively average under the huge fenders, and there’s a full-sized spare on the side-swinging power tailgate. Inside, big displays and rugged controls hide plenty of tech.
Underneath is GM’s Ultium electric platform. That promises up to 830 horsepower for 0-60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds, as well as 300+ miles of range when those figures are finalized. It also powers some more unique features, like a CrabWalk feature with all-wheel steer, and mobile generator use that can even supply up to 6 kW to charge another EV.
