2021 Mercedes-Benz E450 4MATIC All-Terrain Gallery

Bridging the gap between a wagon and an SUV isn't a new challenge, but Mercedes-Benz hopes its new 2021 E450 4MATIC All-Terrain delivers a more interesting solution than rivals. Taking the new E-Class wagon and lifting it, the All-Terrain badge means more rugged lower body cladding and standard air suspension with two new Off-Road modes. Minimum ride height is about two inches more than the regular car.

Under the hood there's Mercedes' inline-six 3.0-liter turbo, complete with EQ Boost electrification. Normally you get 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, but with the electric motor weighing in that adds a temporary 21 horsepower and 184 lb-ft boost. 0-60 mph comes in 5.1 seconds, with an electronically-limited top speed of 130 mph.

Inside, there's nothing to really distinguish this All-Terrain from the rest of its E-Class brethren, though that's no bad thing. Twin 12.3-inch dashboard displays are standard now, with the new MBUX infotainment system, and a capacitive steering wheel. A pop-up third row of seats offers (very) occasional room for two children, though eats into the 35 cu-ft trunk in the process. Pricing kicks off at $67,600 (plus $1,095 destination).
