BMW’s big grand tourer is getting a performance upgrade, with the 2020 M8 promising both speed and luxury. Four versions of the car will be offered. First off there’ll be the 2020 M8 Coupe and Convertible, each with 600 horsepower; then there’ll be the 2020 M8 Competition Coupe and Convertible, which nudges that up to 617 hp.
All four use BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, and an eight-speed transmission. AWD is standard, but with rear-wheel bias. There’s an active differential at the rear to push torque left and right as needed.
Outside, there’s new styling to differentiate the M8 from the regular 8 Series, as well as improve airflow. Inside, the luxe cabin gains red highlight details and M mode shortcuts. All four cars will begin production from July 2019.
