2019 BMW 330i and 2020 M340i Gallery

The BMW 3 Series is an icon, certainly, but even an icon needs a reboot once in a while. After a controversial sixth generation, the seventh-gen G20 arrives to put the 3 Series back on track. It does that by dipping liberally into the history books to cherry pick the features purists think about most fondly.

To that, BMW's engineers bring the cutting-edge of their handiwork. Updated engines with more power and greater efficiency butt up against a new 8-speed transmission. No manual, for the US at least, but that's the only blot on the page.

Meanwhile huge amounts of work polishing the ride, handling, and general dynamics of the car pay dividends, whether you're on the road or the track. The M340i xDrive, meanwhile, promises to outperform the old M3, and it's not even officially a "proper" M car. Expect it to cause waves when it arrives at dealerships in the US in 2019.
