2018 Lexus LS 500h Gallery

Lexus has never been shy about putting hybrid powertrains in its big luxury sedans, and the new 2018 LS 500h is no different. Pairing a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a pair of electric motors, the car manages 354 HP. Battery advances since the old LS hybrid, meanwhile, allow the new car's lithium-ion battery to be 20-percent smaller than before, while still having higher power density.

It borrows the Multi Stage Hybrid System from the LC hybrid, too. That puts a four-stage shifting device into the mix, for greater overall drive power when pulling away from a standing start. The result is a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds, not bad for a luxury car.

RWD and AWD versions will be offered, and all of the gas-only car's fancy cabin accouterments will be included. That means laser-cut wood, hand-pleated door trims, and safety tech like pedestrian detection and active steering within the lane. An optional rear seat package will add an extending leg ottoman seat.
