2018 Ford Expedition Gallery

Ford's biggest SUV is about to get a big upgrade. The 2018 Ford Explorer and 2018 Explorer MAX don't diverge from the high-strength steel platform design of their predecessor, but adopt an F-150-style aluminum-alloy body on top. That means big weight savings, which Ford has taken advantage of to load up on toys.

There's a new 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine paired with a 10-speed automatic, together with an optional electronic limited-slip differential, Terrain Management System, and available Pro Trailer Backup Assist. Ford isn't talking size, weight, power, or economy specifics – expect those closer to the 2018 Expedition's fall release – but they're predicting it'll offer best-in-class cargo space and towing abilities. However, inside are where the big changes can be found.

As well as a generally more luxurious cabin, there's plenty of technology. A WiFi hotspot shares AT&T 4G LTE data between up to 10 devices, and there's Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Ford's own SYNC 3, wireless phone charging, and more outlets and power ports than you probably have mobile devices. Second-row seating that slides, and adult-sized third-row seats round out a highly usable cabin.
