Audi’s Q5 is its best-selling vehicle, and now the SUV is getting a potent version for speed fans. The 2018 Audi SQ5 gets a 3.0 TFSI engine with 354 HP and 368.8 lb-ft of torque to play with, good for a 0-62 mph dash in 5.4 seconds. It’s electronically limited to 155 mph.
The transmission is a new eight-speed, with shorter ratios in the lower end for more enthusiastic driving, and longer upper gears for better fuel economy. There’s also the option to have the gearbox switch automatically into free-wheeling mode when the SQ5 is coasting, so as to further reduce consumption when above 55 mph. Permanent all-wheel drive is standard, with Audi’s quattro generally showing rear-wheel bias; a rear-wheel sport differential is optional.
Inside, there’s Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital display, and an 8.3-inch infotainment screen as standard. A Bang & Olufsen audio system and wireless smartphone charging are options. S sport seats in Alcantara and leather are standard, but can be upgraded to Nappa leather with a diamond pattern and pneumatic massage.
