GTA Online Smuggler's Run to take game to new heights, literally

What could be better than running your own gangster's paradise in a fictional world? Why, sharing that world with others, of course! Whether as allies or rivals, GTA Online at least lets you experience what it might be like living with more than just willing victims to your carnage. With the upcoming major update dubbed "Smuggler's Run", GTA Online gives you more ways to inflict such carnage while also supporting your criminal empire by flying your "merchandise" across Los Angeles.

Smuggler's Run is an homage to a Rockstar Games title of the same name launched in 2000. That game tasked you with smuggling your cargo undetected from US border patrol, government agents, and even rival gangs. That said, the update's name may have been chosen simply for that throwback appeal, because the new vehicles it adds have nothing similar with the PS2 title.

Instead of driving off-road, you will be flying over skies instead. You will have at your disposal, after "acquiring" them of course, a wide array of planes, choppers, and ultralights, all of which you can stow away safely in new hangars that will serve as the new nerve center of your smuggling empire. Also making his debut is Charlie, the mechanic who will keep your flying chariots in tip-top shape.

Carry your cargo to new heights or rain down death from the skies, the Smuggler's Run update will open up a new dimension to your online gameplay. The update goes live next week, 29th August.

But that's not all that developers Rockstar Games has in store. Coming this fall, GTA Online racing will take you across three elements, testing your mettle against earth, sea, and sky. So as not to break the flow of adrenaline, checkpoints along these new complex tri-element circuits will instantly change you to the appropriate vehicle for the next course. The update also promises to bring new vehicles for both land and air as well as a few unannounced surprises for the holidays ahead.
