Google's Niantic Labs intro's new "Endgame: Proving Ground" game

Fans of Google's "Ingress" game, the digital game that takes place in the real-world, now have another similar offering to enjoy — it's called Endgame: Proving Ground, and it ties into Google's previous Endgame: The Calling, which itself is based on a book. Things are just getting underway, so if you missed the last iteration, you can get in on the ground floor with this latest edition, something that is part of a much bigger game that we've detailed after the jump.Endgame is an ambitious undertaking, one that is based upon the the Endgame books by James Frey and Nils Johnson-Shelton. They both concern a dozen ancient bloodlines taking place in a "game" that ends up determining how Earth's future for humans plays out. It is the same kind of alternative reality game we see with Ingress, only bigger and potentially messier.

If you're just getting started with the games, check out the video above, which was released this past October and teases what Endgame is all about. After you're finished, check out the video below (from this past January) to get a little more info about what you're getting into. You can check out all the videos so far on the game's YouTube page.

If you're eager to get on board, you're going to need to head over to the Ancient Societies site and check out their rundown of how to get started, which is going to involve a bit of initial studying to get caught up on what promises to be a massive Endgame effort — and not just in the form of games. As for Proving Ground itself, it'll be fully launching later on in 2015.
