Google TV Music and Movies destined for UK, Canada, and more on November 13
Earlier today, Google announced that its Google Play movies, music and TV shows will be available via Google TV in a few new countries on November 13. Once launched, users in the UK, France, Germany, Australia and Canada will be able to purchase and download movies, TV shows, and music. Google Play support on Google TV was announced back in June.
There's no official number on how large of a media catalog Google offers, with the only word being that it provides thousands of TV shows/movies, and millions of songs. Both content from major studios and indie producers is available. Back in September, the company announced that 600+ Twentieth Century Fox titles were heading to the Google Play store.
Originally, only users in the US could download movies and music, something Google TV users abroad were less than thrilled about. This constitutes a major update on Google's part, and is perhaps an effort in pulling the lagging service out of its tailspin. Google TV has not been without its share of criticism, and Google has fallen short of its proclaimed goals.
Last year, Google stated that by now, most TVs would have the service embedded, something that obviously is not the case. Some critics have stated that Google lacks focus with Google TV and needs to determine exactly what kind of service it is in order to properly pander it to the masses. Still, this a big step in opening up the service to a larger array of users, and is a step in the right direction.
