Google Duo gets Android tablet and iPad video calling support

Google Duo, the company's video chat app, is receiving an update that brings video calling to Android tablets and the iPad. The app first launched in August 2016, but has been limited to smartphones in the months since. This update finally brings the functionality to larger screens, improving its usefulness for many users.

Google bills Duo as a simple way to make high-quality video calls between devices, including between Android smartphones and the iPhone. True to its nature, using the app is easy, involving only a tap on a contact's avatar to make a video or regular voice call.

Users aren't surprised by a call thanks to a "Knock Knock" feature, which enables them to see a live video preview of the person calling, as well as their name. Assuming you don't answer, the caller has the option of leaving a video message that can be viewed later.

Google says that functionality is now available on Android tablets and iPads. The update will be rolling out to users over the next few days, so check for updates regularly. News about the additional support first surfaced early last month when some users saw it arrive pre-announcement.
