Google $0.99 movie rentals offer Thanksgiving distraction

If spending Thanksgiving watching football and parades doesn't really sound like your kind of fun, Google Play will have you covered. Google is once again putting movie rentals on sale for Thanksgiving, giving users the opportunity to catch some entertainment on the cheap. Throughout Thanksgiving, rentals for Google Play's entire library of movies will be down to 99 cents each.

Keep in mind, however, that this promotion is on available on Thanksgiving day, so if you have a backlog of movies you want to catch up on, tomorrow is the day to rent then. While the 99-cent rental deal leads Google Play's holiday promotions, there are plenty of other deals to partake in if you're not in the mood to kick back with a flick.

Google also said today that a number of games will be discounted on Thanksgiving as well. Though many mobile games tend to go the free-to-play route, there are a few discounted paid games worth considering. Google specifically mentions The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic today, but if there's a mobile game you've had your eye on, it might be worth checking to see if it's on sale.

Games already seem to be discounted over on Google Play (Star Wars: KOTOR is currently down to $2.99, for instance), and these gaming discounts also extend to in-app purchases for some free-to-play titles. A fairly wide range of audiobooks, ebooks, and TV shows will also be discounted on Thanksgiving, so be sure to spend some time browsing those as well.

Finally, Google Play has also dropped the price on yearly subscriptions for apps like Calm, Fabulous, Run with Map My Run, and Freeletics, while cutting the price of Headspace by 40%. While movie rental discounts won't be available until tomorrow, a lot of these deals are already live, so have a look at the Google Play Store to see if anything catches your eye.
