GameTap cans Myst Online

Myst was one of those games that I just never got into. I remember playing the original game back in the mid-90s and being impressed with the graphics, but I quickly became bored with the puzzles. I need more in my games than cool graphics and strange puzzles. That's not to say I don't respect the games, as they are some of the best in their genre, which is why I'm sad to hear that Myst Online: Uru Live is being shut down.

The online game, which has been hosted by GameTap has only been live (in its current form) for just under a year. GameTap launched it as a part of their service on February 15, 2007. The game will still remain live for the next 60 days, but will be shut down afterwards. The reasons cited for the shutdown were purely business, and had nothing to do with issues with the game itself. The following is the explanation given by GameTap's VP of content, Ricardo Sanchez.

Although Myst Online: Uru Live will be completely shut down in the near future, the game servers will remain live for the next 60 days. During that time, both newcomers and existing players can continue to experience the amazing world of Myst Online, explore the game's many Ages, and interact with other players in the game and on the MystOnline.com website and forums. After 60 days, the title will be removed from the GameTap service, though MystOnline.com will remain live and active for fans to continue to share their passion for this important game franchise.
