Frito-Lay is giving away 1,000 Nintendo Switch consoles

If you've had no luck in finding a Nintendo Switch at retail – still a major problem for a lot of consumers even though the Switch turns three-months-old tomorrow – then you might want to have a go at a new giveaway announced today. Nintendo has teamed up with Frito-Lay for this giveaway, which seems like an odd partner at first blush. In any case, this giveaway will see more than 1,000 Switch consoles given away, so your chances of winning may actually be fairly decent.

In order to participate, you'll need to buy Frito-Lay variety packs. These packs include a mish-mash of individual Frito-Lay chips and snacks and have a 10-digit code printed on the back of that bag. You'll need to enter your code at Frito-Lay's website to find out if you're an instant winner – if you are, a brand new Nintendo Switch and a Switch game, which is chosen by Frito-Lay, will be yours.

There aren't any other prizes with this promotion, so everyone who wins will get a Nintendo Switch. Frito-Lay says that one person will win every hour while the Sweepstakes is running. The Sweepstakes goes from today until June 9, so you've got a full week to collect and enter your codes.

As disappointing as it is to say, this may be the best chance some people have at getting a Switch. Stock still regularly sells out within hours of appearing at retail stores, and folks are still having to line up in advance just for a chance to get one. Nintendo has revised shipment projections for fiscal year 2018 a few times already, now looking to produce as many as 20 million additional Switch consoles.

Nintendo may have a problem meeting that number, however, as recent reports say that the company is in a heated competition for parts. With the Switch's internal hardware, Nintendo actually finds itself competing with mobile phone makers like Apple for components. In other words, we can probably expect this Switch shortage to last for some time to come.
